Key Laboratory for Groundwater and Ecology

in Arid and Semi-arid Areas

 

1 General situation

In Northwest China, the shortage of water resources and fragile of ecological environment are two main problems. As the development of the western region, the rational utilization of groundwater is important for economic development and the protection of the ecological environment. The Key Laboratory is built as an experimental platform, a communication platform and a cooperation platform for solving related problems of water environment in Northwest China.

2 The Key Scientific Problems

(1)The form and transform of groundwater resources;

(2)The relationship between ecological environment and groundwater ;

(3)The impact of human activities on groundwater environment.
 

 3 The function of the Laboratory

The Laboratory has three main functions, the experimental platform, the communication platform and the cooperation platform.

As the experimental platform, there are 14 experimental sites, including 10 indoor laboratories, 1 large outdoor simulation field, 2 in-situ scientific observation base and 1 in-situ field test site.

As the communication platform, the Laboratory invites experts to make scientific reports, and hold professional technique training class. In 2013 we hosted the “International Symposium on Regional Groundwater Flow: Theory, Application and Future Development”.

As the cooperation platform, the Laboratory provides a large number of open funds. There are more than 20 research units maintaining long-term cooperation, including Tsinghua University, China University of Geosciences, Jilin University, Chines Academy of Sciences.

 4 Laboratory Results

So far, surpported by the laboratory, there are more than 60 research projects were undertaken, and more than 100 papers and 2 books were published. The on-going scientific research project including:
